A new book on “Cancel Culture” by Masarat

As part of the “Confronting Hate Speech” series, a new book by Dr. Muntaser Sabah Al-Hasnawi on “Cancel Culture” has been published by Masarat Foundation.

Studying this new culture is part of the goal of the “Monitoring and Confronting Hate Speech Center” at Masarat Foundation, to shed light on a variety of issues related to social media, most notably: hate speech, misinformation, violent extremism, and finally, the critically important subject of the book regarding “Cancel Culture.”

The book “Cancel Culture” is the first of its kind in the Arab world to address this new phenomenon. While the number of researchers analyzing the dimensions and impacts of this culture has increased globally, the concept remains almost absent in the Arab context.

The book explores this culture after it has evolved from a marginal subject to a cross-disciplinary topic, examining its impact on social dynamics, media, politics, and the behavior of parties, presidents, institutions, and companies. It indicates the emergence of a new authority, namely the rise of fan cultures in contemporary intermediary environments.
