The Citizenship Education Program at the House of Books and Documents in Baghdad

The Masarat Foundation for Cultural and Media Development, in collaboration with the House of Books and Documents in Baghdad, organized a central event to commemorate the centenary of the passing of the leader Muhammad Shamdin Agha Al-Suleifani as part of its citizenship education program.

The event included a documentary film about the late Muhammad Shamdin Agha Al-Suleifani, the signing of a book documenting his biography, and the presentation of the Active Citizenship Medal to Mr. Saad Shamdin Agha Al-Suleifani, the family representative.

Several representatives from diplomatic missions, Iraqi diplomats, representatives of the Iraqi government, the Kurdistan Regional Government, as well as a selection of academics, intellectuals, and historians from various cities in Iraq, such as Mosul, Erbil, Zakho, Aqrah, Sulaymaniyah, Kirkuk, Babylon, Najaf, Karbala, and Baghdad, participated in the event.

The opening speeches by Mr. Barq Ra’ad Al-Alawi, Director of the House of Books and Documents, Dr. Noufal Abu Raghif, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Cardinal Louis Sako, and Mr. Fares Issa, representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government, emphasized the importance of activating the role of culture in supporting social cohesion and enhancing national identity.

The General Coordinator of the Masarat Foundation highlighted in his opening speech the importance of honoring Iraqi cultural and social symbols as a significant lever for building a shared transcendent identity.

It is worth mentioning that the Citizenship Education Program started in Baghdad, passing through the provinces of Karbala, Babylon, Tikrit, and Samarra in Salah al-Din, through Kirkuk, reaching Kurdistan, where the program went through Erbil, Duhok, and reached Zakho. Today’s event in Baghdad aimed to bring together representatives and symbols of peaceful coexistence in Iraq.
