Saad Salloum Calls for Granting Minorities Veto Right

Saad Salloum, expert of minorities issues in Iraq and Middle East, calls for granting the Iraqi minorities a Veto right to enhance their political participation. Salloum has already authored a book titled Political Participation of Minorities in Iraq  published in English by Heartland Alliance in 2017 in which he presented a comprehensive map for the minorities that have the right of political participation such as the Christians, Yazidis and Mandaens, in addition to the minorities which are deprived of this right, such as Baha’is,  Zoroastrianists, Kaka’is and Afro-Iraqis. In contrast to the calls of the representatives of minorities to increase the number of their seats in the parliament, Salloum believes that this will not make any difference, and this will be a symbolic and inactive quota, unless the minorities are given a tool to enhance their rights, and the Veto right, according to Salloum, may represent them.
