In Preparation to Basrah Carnival, Peacemakers Discuss Strategies of the Next Stage

In a meeting in the HQ of MCMD in Baghdad, 30 Peacemakers team members deeply discuss strategies of the upcoming stage.

Within the context of the advocacy campaign to “Enhance Peaceful Coexistence and Acceptance of the Other” launched by MCMD as part of the program of “Mesopotamia Youth Gathering for Democracy, Social Cohesion and Reconciliation in Iraq” funded by EU.

The meeting discussed the agenda of future activities within the campaign, and endorsed six of them to be implemented at the beginning of next month in Basrah Province.

The meeting witnessed deliberations and interventions posed by the team members about their own views, and the status quo of the minority groups and their future in context of the latest developments witnessed by Iraq.

Participants in the meeting agreed on launching a series of activities covering all cities of Iraq to highlight the importance of diversity and the necessity of preserving diversity so as to enhance civil peace and coexistence, and protecting the rights of minority groups.

The meeting was attended by a delegation from the US embassy in Baghdad, headed by Mr. Paul S. Watzlavick, deputy counselor for public affairs, and Miss Catherine Solayman, Cultural Exchange director.
