On a beautiful afternoon filled with love, harmony, and togetherness, the family of Mr. Abu Khadida welcomed the participants of the “Education for Dialogue and Knowing the Other” camp in the city of Qahtaniyah.
Throughout the midday hours, the family members and their neighbors exchanged discussions and stories with the participants from the “Knights of Dialogue” about diversity, the role of dialogue in strengthening it within the city, as well as stories of resilience and solidarity during the invasion of terrorist groups and the genocide that took place.
The women of the household—Um Ibrahim, Um Khadida, Aishan, and the daughters of the family—prepared a generous feast for the participants, featuring the most renowned dishes of the Yazidi cuisine. The Yazidi women of Qahtaniyah also shared with their counterparts from other cities details of their experiences of endurance and challenge during displacement in the days of the genocide, and their return to the city after liberation.
At the end of the gathering, the participants of the camp—organized by Masarat for Cultural and Media Development in cooperation with KAICIID and the House of Coexistence—exchanged souvenirs and symbolic gifts with their hosts, which had been crafted during previous camps.
It is worth mentioning that the “With Dialogue We Remain and Rise” camp was launched in Baghdad with the participation of youth from Sinjar, later joined by youth from Baghdad in its first phase. The camp then moved to Basra, where young men and women from Basra joined the team that went on to Dhi Qar, then to the Nineveh Plain, and later entered the old city of Mosul. The camp has now reached the city of Sinjar and its surroundings, and will soon continue its tour in other Iraqi cities as part of a program aimed at promoting dialogue as a mechanism for building peace among followers of religions and rejecting hate speech.
