Participants of the “Education for Dialogue and Knowing the Other” camp arrived in Nasiriyah, in the Dhi Qar Governorate.
The youth of Nasiriyah welcomed their peers to the camp, organized by Masarat for Cultural and Media Development in cooperation with Bayt Al-Ta’ayush.
The camp activities began with learning about the city’s history, cultural symbols, and community leaders. They started by visiting Al-Hububi Square and learning about his life through a presentation by civil activists Alaa Diaa and Ahmed Jasim.
Al-Hububi, or Muhammad Saeed Al-Hububi, was a Ja’fari jurist and Arab poet born in Najaf in 1850, where he studied literature. He later traveled to Ha’il in Najd in 1864, then returned to Najaf to continue his studies in its religious schools. He was known for his stance against the British occupation of Iraq and died in Nasiriyah in 1915 from wounds sustained in the Battle of Shaiba.
It is worth noting that the “We Remain and Rise in Dialogue” camp started in Baghdad with the participation of youth from Sinjar, joined later by youth from Baghdad in its first phase. It then reached Basra, where young men and women from Basra joined the team. The camp is currently in Dhi Qar and will continue its tour soon to other Iraqi cities as part of a program aimed at promoting dialogue as a means to build peace among followers of different religions and to counter hate speech.
