The participants of the “With Dialogue We Endure and Rise” camp gathered in Al-Qurna city in Basra at dawn today, at the point where the Tigris and Euphrates rivers meet.
They were welcomed by Mr. Ali Haidar, one of the youth activists in the field of dialogue in the city, who hosted the camp delegation. The camp is implemented by Masarat Foundation for Cultural and Media Development in partnership with KAICIID and the House of Coexistence.
The participants visited the Adam Tree in Al-Qurna before witnessing the first light of dawn at the confluence of the two rivers, where they join to form the Shatt Al-Arab.
Al-Qurna, administratively part of Basra Governorate, is located at the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, 74 km north of Basra city center. It has a population of approximately 450,000 and is known for its palm cultivation and the many branching rivers.
The campers chose this point for a full-day activity as a symbolic expression of their gathering from different communities, likening it to the meeting of the Tigris and Euphrates, reflecting their pride in their Iraqi identity.
It is worth noting that the “With Dialogue We Endure and Rise” camp was launched in Baghdad with the participation of youth from Sinjar, later joined by youth from Baghdad in its first phase, and then continued to Basra, where young men and women from the city joined the team. The program will soon continue its journey in Dhi Qar Governorate, aiming to strengthen dialogue as a mechanism for peacebuilding among followers of different religions and to reject hate speech.
