The participants of the “With Dialogue We Endure and Rise” camp visited the home of Basra’s great poet, Badr Shakir Al-Sayyab, located in Jikur Village in Abu Al-Khasib, Basra.
The campers toured the house accompanied by Mr. Faiq Abdulqader Al-Sayyab, the poet’s cousin and the supervisor of the residence. Mr. Faiq provided the visitors with a detailed explanation of the poet’s life and history, then guided them through the house, highlighting its details, historical significance, and the poet’s relationship with the place. He also answered the camp participants’ questions regarding Al-Sayyab’s life, family, poetry, and literary achievements.
Earlier in the camp, the participants had visited the poet’s grave at Al-Hasan Al-Basri Cemetery in Al-Zubair city. They also visited the poet’s monument on the Shatt Al-Arab Corniche in downtown Basra before arriving at the Al-Sayyab family home in Jikur Village.
It is worth noting that the #With_Dialogue_We_Endure_and_Rise camp is implemented by Masarat Foundation for Cultural and Media Development, in partnership with KAICIID and the House of Coexistence. The camp was launched in Baghdad with the participation of youth from Sinjar, later joined by youth from Baghdad in its first phase, and then continued to Basra, where young men and women from the city joined the team. The program will soon continue its journey across other Iraqi cities, aiming to promote dialogue as a mechanism for peacebuilding among followers of different religions and for rejecting hate speech.
