An article by Cardinal Sako, Patriarch of the Chaldean Church in Iraq and the world, titled: “Religion Does Not Cancel Identity,” praised the work of Masarat Foundation.
In the article published on the Chaldean Patriarchate’s website, Sako pointed out that Iraq is multi-ethnic and multi-religious. This diversity can be managed wisely and not in a racist manner as the previous regime did with the Arabization campaign that destroyed diversity. He noted that after the fall of the regime in 2003, the same process was repeated through the imposition of the term “components,” which undermines the project of Iraqi national identity and comprehensive citizenship, dividing the unified people into cantons.
He concluded the article by stating: “As a Christian, I proudly consider myself part of the Iraqi civilization with its ethnic, religious, and sectarian mosaic, and thus Muslim citizens must accept and recognize others in a diverse Iraq.” He also highlighted the importance of adopting new and open curricula in education and media, and striving for the stability of the country and the provision of security, safety, and services.
