A consultative meeting was held by Masarat Institution for Cultural and Media Development to discuss the possibilities and evaluation of enacting legislation to prevent hate speech shared in the media and online. The meeting, which took place in the Greek Orthodox Church in Baghdad, deeply discussed the requirements of activating the proposed law or amending previous existing laws to address hate speech in the media.
Furthermore, a team of specialists was formed of many activists, jurists, media figures, and parliamentarians who put their visions and opinions forward regarding hate speech prevention, effect, and consequences on the public.
The team presented a range of proposals that hoped to be applied after they are fully constructed to share with a broader segment of specialists and researchers in the upcoming months.
