The General Coordinator of the Masarat Foundation presented the latest statistics on monitoring hate speech in the context of the opening session of the first scientific conference of Al-Nahrain University titled “Intellectual Extremism – Challenges and Prospects for Peacebuilding in Iraq,” with the participation of several academic, religious, and cultural figures.
The conference included discussions on several axes, including the role of moderation and tolerance in combating intellectual extremism, societal and ethical responsibilities in fighting extremism, as well as the role of media and social networks in countering extremist ideas.
Dr. Saloom emphasized the vital role of the Center for Monitoring and Confronting Hate Speech in the foundation in terms of defining the proportions of such speech, identifying the essential actors, and determining ways to confront and contain these discourses in a manner that supports policies against violent extremism and a proactive approach to prevent genocide. He stressed the importance of the civil society’s role in conjunction with state institutions in combating destructive ideas through the promotion of values of tolerance and intellectual and cultural diversity in various aspects of Iraqi society.
