As the international cultural meeting in Madrid was concluding its activities today, the
participants decided to hold a conference in October to search and study the future of the Iraqi-
Spanish relations.
This meeting was launched in cooperation with Masarat and The European Community of
Religions and it discussed many different fields of cooperation including teaching the Spanish
language and cultural-educational exchange. Lastly, the participants agreed on holding a yearly
conference besides a book fair and translating books of several famous authors from both Iraq and
Spain.
The meeting was held in Madrid, the capital of Spain, and it lasted for two days focusing on
cooperation and experience sharing. One of the most ideas discussed is the aspect of working on the
the cultural and religious rich heritage of the two countries and taking the experience of Spain as an
essential example of managing activities in many aspects whether regional, federal, or autonomous
communities or local governments.
The meeting also searched the possibility of making the culture of Iraq and Spain as a
strategic sector to empower the status of those two countries internationally. In addition to that,
the meeting also went to talk about the challenges that the two countries may go through, one of
which is using the huge heritage resources as tools to strengthen local identity and the way to
differentiate between the fundamental needs to preserve and protect the cultural heritage and the
side goals that add to its economic importance as in the tourism sector on one hand and all other
sectors combined from another. It is worth noting that this international meeting is the first of its kind and that it presented a
cultural week in Madrid as desired by Masarat and The European Community of Religions to
establish a start point for the Iraqi-Spanish relation by providing a platform supporting the
development of relations between both countries in all available aspects.
