The Iraqi president, Fouad Maasoum, said that citizenship, conciliation and accepting the other form the essential base on which the regime should be built. This happened when his Excellency received the Iraqi council members for Interreligious dialogue.His Excellency emphasized the role of interreligious dialogue in establishing the peace, and the importance of devoting the civil action and working with the clergy to strive to peaceful coexistence for the country.In response, Sayyed Jawad Al-Khoie, member of the council, said that the meeting with the president brought about the council’s certainty of the important role of the president for Iraq, to maintain diversity and to strengthen acceptance of the other, as the president is the country’s defender of the constitution.Mr. Saad Salloum, member of the council, presented a report about the council’s activities and its work with the clergy, the youth, and women. Mr. Saad presented as well to the president and the presidential counsellors’ three plans to amend the school programs in Iraq, as the reformation should start from school if we really want to build it on a strong basis.In response, Mr. President praised the council’s work in this domain, confirming the importance to have good school programs that raise and support the value of citizenship and national unity in Iraq.Father Amir Jaje op. described the meeting with the president as positive and effective, clarifying that the similarity of the visions and objectives of the council with those of the president, will help the council to go faster in its plans for dialogue between different religions.Dr. Amina Al-Dahabi, the secretary of the council, presented an outline for the minority rights law that was written and amended recently, and also the draft for disaster management and the protection of displace people law.Mr. Maasoum declared his support and help for all the council activities in legislation and laws that are responsible to protect the diversity and the cultural, religious and nationalism rights of each group in Iraq.All the council members had a meeting with the presidential counsellors’ team before their meeting with the president. They discussed the matter of diversity in Iraq and the beneficial plans and strategies to keep the community peace and the diversity in the Iraqi society.
