The Role of Educational Institutions in Promoting Dialogue

Camp participants in Basra discussed within the “With Dialogue We Remain and Elevate” program the role of educational institutions in promoting dialogue as a mechanism for building peace and accepting others.

This took place during a meeting with participants in the camp, which is implemented by Masarat Foundation in partnership with the House of Coexistence and KAICIID, with Mr. Nabil Kataa Al-Miyahi, the director of Al-Razi Educational Foundation in the city of Al-Zubair in Basra.

Participants discussed the methods and strategies employed by the institution to encourage educational staff and their students to engage in dialogue as a means of building peace and promoting citizenship that embraces diversity in a city rich in color, religious, and sectarian diversity.

The meeting also touched on the importance of dialogue in shaping students’ personalities and preparing a generation that believes in peace and respects others, which would ensure the stability of Iraq’s future and its children.

At the end of the meeting, participants from Sinjar presented the director of the institution with a stone from Mount Sinjar as a memento of this meeting and as an expression of their pride in this mountain, which symbolizes the resilience of the Yazidi community and their attachment to their land, country, and identity.

It is worth noting that the “With Dialogue We Remain and Elevate” camp started in Baghdad with the participation of youth from Sinjar, who were later joined by youth from Baghdad in its first phase. It then moved to Basra, where young men and women from Basra joined the team, which will continue its tour in other cities in Iraq soon as part of a program aimed at enhancing dialogue as a mechanism for building peace among followers of different religions and rejecting hate speech.
