During his participation in the first session of the conference (In Dark Times: Genocide, War Crimes, and Political Violence), the General Coordinator of Masarat presented the organization’s experience in the field of preventing genocide during the years following the crimes committed by ISIS against components of Iraqi society. The international conference held at the University of Baghdad was organized in collaboration with the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies and the UNESCO Chair for the Prevention of Genocide at the University of Baghdad. The main session was chaired by Dr. Haidar Saeed, editor-in-chief of Arab Policy Journal, and included remarks from former Minister of Culture and Assistant President of the American University, Dr. Hassan Nazim, along with discussions on teaching genocide in Iraqi universities. Among the most notable contributions of Masarat mentioned by the General Coordinator was the series “One Hundred Years of Genocide,” which has produced numerous volumes. Additionally, the establishment of the Center for Confronting Hate Speech, which is responsible for monitoring such speech and designing public policies to combat it. Finally, he provided an explanation of the key elements of the national strategy for preventing genocide presented by the International Yazidi Organization for the Prevention of Genocide in partnership with Masarat and the UNESCO Chair for the Prevention of Genocide at the University of Baghdad.
