Masarat Foundation for Cultural and Media Development participated in the coordination session to study topics related to counter-terrorism in the context of human rights.
The session was organized by the High Commission for Human Rights in Iraq, with the presence of advisor Dr. Adel Mohammed Al-Saywi, Senior Advisor to the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, and Sharif Ali Mohammed, Human Rights Officer at the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism in Baghdad.
The session discussed many topics related to human rights, minorities, violence, violence leading to terrorism, and mechanisms to control it.
Dr. Amina Golden, Executive Director of Masarat, represented the foundation at the session and presented the foundation’s vision for using media and social media in combating terrorism. She also discussed hate speech and its role in extremism leading to terrorism.
The session also addressed the topic of capacity building for specialists in national institutions in the fields of counter-terrorism, preventing violent extremism, and cybersecurity.
Additionally, the session explored the role of civil society in protecting human rights and educating the community about their importance in the fight against violence and terrorism, considering it a link between society and the government.
