Saad Salloum, general coordinator of MCMS won Kamil Shiaa’s Award for Enlightenment of 2018. The award was presented to him in the festival of Tareeq al-Shaab, organized on Abu Nawas park Friday 9th of November. The report of the Award, recited by Hussein al-Najjar, an activist, states that:
The award of this year is presented to a person who, in spite of all hard circumstances he encountered, contributed to the struggle for enhancing the values of citizenship, human rights, social justice and the pursuit of peaceful coexistence among all components of Iraqi people.”
It is worth stating that this award is given every year to one academic figure who has a qualitative contribution in enlightening and raising awareness as per the contemporary issues of Iraq. The award is named after the Iraqi thinker Kamil Shiaa, killed in 2008, who was known for his cultural initiatives and his struggle for the values of enlightenment in Iraq.
