MSMD Finishes a Series of Workshops to Combat Hatred

In partnership with Baghdad Provincial Council, MSMD conducted a workshop with some of the political and community leaders of Iraq. It is considered the last workshop within the series of workshops of “The Campaign of Combating Hate Speeches in the Media.” The workshop witnessed the participation of 24 figures from the Council of Representatives, Provincial Council of Baghdad as well as some representatives of minorities, and legal advisors. The workshop discussed a number of recommendations related to the analysis of the reasons behind the espousal of political leaderships to religious and nationalistic hate speeches, and the means of confronting such speeches so as to enhance civil coexistence and preserve diversity in Iraq. The workshop also issues a joint statement encompassing some recommendations such as the importance of the role of the Communication and Media Commission (CMC) and the Council of Representatives which is crucial to confront the hate speech at both levels, political and in the media, and as soon as possible.
